Spreading Love Through Buying Local

We can all admit that we’re living in pretty strange times. When you look at the news or other trending topics, it’s hard to find a message of love or positivity. You may feel out of control of what is going on, but there are a few things you can do to spread love and positivity that are completely in your control.

During this month, we want to highlight and emphasize spreading love through shopping local, because without you realizing it, this love is spread from you to everyone else around you, including your friends, family, and community.

How can you help spread local love this February? We’ve put together a few ideas that might be easy for you to do on a daily basis!

-Buy local: Although it’s the most obvious, this is one of the best and most effective ways to show support to your community. A purchase, small or large, makes a much larger imprint on a small, locally owned business compared to a larger, corporate business. Buying from a local business means you’re putting money into the businesses that are doing more for you. Data shows that for every $100 spent locally, $68 is generated back to the local economy. Data also shows that small businesses donate 250% more than large businesses to community causes, and your community deserves that love.

-Donate money or time: Have a few spare dollars or hours this week? Think about making small donations to local non-profits or using your extra free time to volunteer with one around you. Non-profits are great ways to spread love locally and volunteering can help you learn more about your community and yourself. It’s also a fun way to find something you’ve never tried before!

-Give back to loved ones: There are plenty of other ways to give back to loved ones, but did you know members of The Produce Box can purchase a neighbor bundle to gift fresh produce to a friend? It’s a great way to spread the love to yourself as well as a friend, and fresh produce is always a great gift.

“We love our communities that we serve and are always looking for meaningful ways to give back to our team, members, and the community while also focusing on supporting our vendors and farmers who are local, small businesses,” said CEO Courtney Tellefsen. The Produce Box has always believed that LOCAL=LOVE but there is no better time to spread the message of love than the month of love.
