Wow…I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of another delicious season, and I’m reflecting on not just THIS year, but the TEN years that we’ve been working to create a new local food system that WORKS!
It works for our farmers, because they are able to do what they do best, and then get paid for it when they walk in the door, not weeks or months later. It works for our employees, many of whom have been with us 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 years, and who have grown in our company as we’ve grown. It works for our community partners, who enjoy the fruits of our labor and of your buying choices, resulting in hundreds of pounds of produce donated every week to food banks and pantries in your communities…and of course, it works for you, our members, who appreciate that local goodness hand-delivered to your door by your neighbor down the street!
So, at the end of the year…I owe YOU a thank you. You have made a choice to trust us to feed you and your family on a routine basis. The routine part of this is huge. The routine part helps us to make a planting schedule with our farmers that goes through the year and that I am confident we can sell. The routine part allows us to provide work for our farm-partners through the year, and it helps us to develop delivery routes that provide stable work for our driving and packing team. That routine is the backbone of our existence. When you order from us, you support, dollar for dollar, local farmers in a way that you could not do at a retail store, even if you tried. (Maybe 5-7 farmers, but certainly not 130 of them!)
It’s been a pretty FANTASTIC ten years. We have successfully created a TRULY COLLABORATIVE FOOD SYSTEM. We could not do this without the talented teams of people that make every part of our process work in harmony. These folks are of the heart of our company, and I am proud to know and love them.
